North Lake Escapes Brookhaven to Pull Even atop DAC

IRVING, Texas – Dallas College North Lake erased a 15-point second half deficit to pull out a 90-83 overtime win over Dallas College Brookhaven Wednesday night.

The 16th-ranked Blazers reached the .500 mark for the first time this season, and will take their 12-12 overall, 7-2 Dallas Athletic Conference record into Saturday's 1 p.m. game at No. 12 Dallas College Richland (15-8, 7-2) in a battle for outright possession of first place in the league to complete the second round of DAC action.

Autavius Hobbs scored 11 of his 24 points in the final 2:22 of regulation to send the game into overtime. His 3-pointer with 3:57 in overtime gave North Lake a five-point lead that essentially put it away.

Hobbs had 16 points after halftime. He was 7-for-8 from the free throw line.

Brookhaven (7-17, 4-5) built a 56-41 lead on Jovan Danner's twirling shot. Adonai Rezene capped a four-point play with 11:09 to go to pull the Blazers within nine. Anden Holmes' 3-pointer at the 6:07 mark cut it to seven. David Clower sank four straight free throws, and Alex Gilmore scored with 4:12 remaining to pull North Lake within one.

Dylan Gonzales, who finished with 16 points, seven assists and five rebounds, and Jeremy Roman, who had 22 points and 10 boards, sank four straight free throws to push the Bears back to a five-point advantage before Hobbs took over.

Hobbs converted a three-point play with 2:22 left on the clock to pull the Blazers within, 71-69. Brookhaven's Brandon Webber drove weak side for a bucket, and Gonzales hit a driving layup as the shot clock wore down to extend the lead back to six. Hobbs answered with a 3, and then a steal and lay-in with 49 seconds left to make it a one-point game. Following Ronan's basket, Hobbs converted another three-point play with 30.9 seconds left to force overtime.

North Lake outscored Brookhaven, 13-6, in overtime, going 5-for-6 from the free throw line, while holding the Bears to two field goals in bonus time.

Khaleel Thomas had 15 points, 12 rebounds, three blocks and two steals for the Bears, who shot 45 percent. Gonzales was 6 of 11 from the field, and Roman 7 of 11.

Holmes, Rezene and J'Ylon Nobles each scored 11 for the Blazers. Gilmore finished with 10.

The Blazers were 26-for-34 from the free throw line. The Bears went 22 of 28 at the stripe.

It was North Lake's first overtime win since beating Brookhaven in double overtime Feb. 15, 2023.
